 21 December 2011 - The report on the independent review of the EGCC Scheme has been published, along with the Board's response to the recommendations.

18 November 2011 – The EGCC won the small workplace category of the JRA Best Workplaces Awards, announced in Auckland last night. 

16 November 2011 - Our results in the JRA Best Workplaces Survey show resolving complaints makes for a great workplace. We look forward to meeting the other finalists at the awards dinner in Auckland on 17 November 2011.

27 October 2011 - The EGCC is a finalist in the JRA Best Workplaces Awards 2011.  We are very pleased to be one of ten finalists in the small workplace category.  The winners will be announced at a dinner in Auckland on 17 November 2011.  

26 October 2011 - The EGCC will be at the Ministry of Consumer Affairs' Consumer Rights Days in Whanganui on 16 November and Upper Hutt on 30 November.   These days are a chance to find out about a range of consumer rights services.  They are free, and light refreshments are provided.

10 October 2011 - The EGCC celebrates its tenth anniversary this month. 

28 September 2011 - The EGCC will be giving a presentation at the Ministry of Consumer Affairs' Consumer Rights Day in Pt Chevalier, Auckland.

30 August 2011 - Six EGCC conciliators received LEADR accreditation this week, meaning 7 of our 15 conciliators are now accredited mediators.  LEADR is an Australasian not-for-profit membership organisation that promotes alternative dispute resolution including mediation. Accreditation is accepted as the benchmark for much of the mediation and alternative dispute resolution industry. We are very proud of our staff for adding LEADR accreditation to their other achievements as experts in resolving electricity and gas disputes.

27 June 2011 - EGCC 2010-11 Annual Report released at AGM. The media release and Annual Report are on this site.

16 June 2011 - Joel Pearce won the Award for Achievement by an Emerging Mediator at the inaugural LEADR NZ National Awards. The awards recognise the achievements of those working in alternative dispute resolution in NZ. All EGCC conciliation staff have LEADR training, and we are very proud that Joel's work has been recognised with this award.

16 May 2011 - The Electricity and Gas Complaints Commissioner will speak about the Scheme at the Ministry of Consumer Affairs Consumer Rights Days in South Auckland, Gisborne and Napier in May, Whangarei in June, West Auckland in July, and central Auckland in September 2011.

10 March 2011 - The Electricity and Gas Complaints Commission will be at Fieldays 2011, 15-18 June, Mystery Creek, Hamilton. Visit us at the Australian and New Zealand Ombudsman Association stand in the Bledisloe rural living area, site 35.

10 March 2011 - The Electricity and Gas Complaints Commissioner warned of a possible switching scam targeting the elderly in Auckland. 

25 February 2011 - Minister of Consumer Affairs approves proposed Scheme document to take effect 1 April 2011. 

18 February 2011 - Third round of consulation on proposed changes to the Constitution.  In response to advice from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the proposed Scheme document removes the power to expel Scheme members. 

8 February 2011 - The Commission unanimously approved proposed changes to the Constitution, including the levy system. The revised Scheme document has been sent to the Minister of Consumer Affairs and Scheme Members.

31 January 2011 - Closing date for submissions on the second round of consultation on a revised Constitution, including a review of the levy system. Five companies made submissions

19 January 2011 - The second round of consultation opens on a revised Constitution for the Electricity and Gas Complaints Commissioner Scheme, including a review of the levy system. 

1 December 2010 - The Scheme now covers reticulated LPG. See the media release for more detail.

24 November 2010 - Closing date for submissions on the first round of consultation on a revised Constitution, including a review of the levy system. Twelve companies made submissions.

3 November 2010 - Consultation opens on a revised Constitution for the Electricity and Gas Complaints Commissioner Scheme, including a review of the levy system.

1 November 2010 - The Electricity Industry Act 2010 comes into force.  The Constitution of the Electricity and Gas Complaints Commissioner Scheme is amended to reflect changes to the Act. 

1 November 2010 - The Electricity Authority is established.  The Authority is an independent Crown entity responsible for the efficient operation of the NZ electricity market.  The Authority replaces the Electricity Commission. 

18 October 2010 - E-Gas, a gas retailer, went into voluntary liquidation  E-Gas was not a member of the Electricity and Gas Complaints Commissioner Scheme.  E-Gas customers should see the Gas Industry Co website for more information.

1 October 2010 - A change to the switching rule, approved by the Minister of Energy and Resources, means people can expect a switch between electricity suppliers to be completed within 12 working days.  See the media release for more detail 

Effective 1 April 2010, the EGCC Scheme is the sole approved consumer complaint resolution scheme for electricity and gas complaints. The provisions of the Electricity and Gas Acts make membership of the approved scheme mandatory for electricity and gas retailers and distributors.

Gazette notices confirming the approval were published on 10 December 2009.
